Summer Opportunities

It's not often in life that we get to evaluate our purpose, map out our future and reflect on our past. As a volunteer on summer staff at a Young Life camp, you'll have the chance to grow personally and spiritually — you'll be surrounded by other people from all over the world who, like yourself, really want their life to count for something.

Every summer KU students head to Young Life camps around the country to serve on Summer Staff. On Summer Staff, you'll have a chance to try new things and to spend a month at one of the most beautiful places on God's earth. You'll also be challenged through daily devotions, mentoring and worship to take your faith to a new level and learn how to serve like Jesus did thousands of years ago.

You'll also find yourself refreshed by hundreds of kids you've impacted during the summer — kids you've helped have the best week of their lives at a Young Life camp. Yes, it will be hard work, but there's a big payoff — changed lives — yours and the kids you influence.

WHO CAN SERVE?

Summer staff is the volunteer experience for those who have completed at least one year of college (or are of college or post-college age). The summer staff serve the campers at Young Life camps in roles which require considerable maturity and non-verbal witness.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE

All jobs require hard work, long hours, and no pay. People who do not desire to serve others need not apply! Positions at camps include boat drivers, life guards, zip line operators, climbing wall directors, cooks, bakers, store, beachfront snack bar, coffee shop, office, maintenance, landscaping, program technician and more!

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

Discipleship Focus

Discipleship Focus is an all-summer discipleship program that combines the real-life elements of work at an exciting theme park (Silver Dollar City in MO or Dollywood in TN), biblical studies and nurturing, the support of a Christian community and the opportunity for friendship evangelism. The purpose of the program is for participants to grow in an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ. Contact: Ray Pettigrew (MO), 417-338-8804 or Dennis & Shanna Fuller (TN), 865-428-4011.

Work Weeks

Numerous camps run pre-summer season work weeks. College kids prepare the camp by day, and then enjoy program and a speaker at evening clubs. This is a chance to both serve and grow in Christ.

Young Life Expeditions

Young Life Expeditions are one-week to three-month short-term volunteer opportunities for groups and individuals to serve in countries where Young Life is either currently ministering or being developed. Service trips, summer internships and work crew-type experiences are available. Contact 770-814-2750

Doulos

The Doulos Discipleship program is a one-year leadership internship for college graduates. The students live and work with troubled teenagers in a residential care program called Shelterwood.  There is a staff of licensed counselors who meet regularly with the students and their parents. The counselors also work with the Doulos students during the year.

Many of the students come with a background in youth ministry like Young Life. They receive a year of practical training and instruction, as well as hundreds of hours of practical experience working with teenagers with a variety of emotional and social issues.   In addition to receiving free room and board, the students receive $1,000 a month salary plus benefits.

They are also open to students who are still enrolled in school wishing to experience a three-month internship, usually in the summer. For this we offer free room and board.

Visit www.doulosdiscipleship.org or you can also get a clear picture of what the program is about through a recent video they produced.
